FOR PROFESSIONALS

Working together around the person.

We work collaboratively with Support Coordinators, allied health professionals, service providers and other members of a participant’s support team to develop practical, person-centred Behaviour Support.

Collaboration makes support stronger

Effective Behaviour Support rarely happens in isolation. We take time to understand the participant, listen to the people who know them well and work alongside the wider support team.

The aim is to develop a shared understanding of what may be contributing to behaviour and practical strategies that can be used consistently in everyday life.

WORKING TOGETHER

How we can work with you

We aim to make Behaviour Support clear, collaborative and practical for everyone involved.

Our work can include assessment, Behaviour Support planning, implementation support and ongoing review, with collaboration built into each stage.

PROFESSIONAL COLLABORATION

Your perspective matters.

Good support brings different perspectives together.

We want to understand that.

With the participant’s consent and involvement, we work alongside the wider team to bring different perspectives together, build a shared understanding of behaviour and develop practical support that makes sense in everyday life.

REFERRALS

When to consider a referral

Behaviour is becoming difficult to understand

The team may be seeing recurring patterns but is unsure what is contributing to them or what support may help.

Current strategies are not enough

Existing approaches may be difficult to implement, inconsistent across settings or no longer meeting the participant’s needs.

The team needs a shared approach

Different people may be responding in different ways and would benefit from clear, practical guidance built around the participant.

WORKING TOGETHER

A shared approach

With the participant’s consent and involvement, we collaborate with the people and services already around them so Behaviour Support is informed, coordinated and practical.

Support Coordinators

We can work with you around referrals, participant goals, current supports and the practical information needed to coordinate Behaviour Support.

Allied health professionals

Support providers and implementers

We help translate Behaviour Support strategies into everyday practice through clear guidance, implementation support, feedback and review.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

Clear. Collaborative. Practical.

We communicate clearly about what we are seeing, what we think may be contributing to behaviour and the reasoning behind our recommendations.

We value the knowledge of the participant and the people already supporting them. Where appropriate and with consent, we share information and work alongside the wider team rather than in isolation.

Recommendations should be realistic in everyday settings. We review what is working, respond to new information and adapt support when circumstances change.

RIGHTS & SAFETY

A word about restrictive practices

Some referrals involve restrictive practices that are already being used, have been identified by a provider, or are being considered in response to safety concerns.

A restrictive practice is a practice or intervention that restricts a person’s rights or freedom of movement. Where regulated restrictive practices are used within NDIS supports, specific authorisation, reporting, Behaviour Support Plan and safeguarding requirements may apply.

Where restrictive practices are relevant, we work openly with the participant and support team to understand why they are occurring, reduce immediate risk and identify less restrictive alternatives. The aim is to reduce and, wherever possible, eliminate the use of restrictive practices over time.

GETTING STARTED

A referral can start with a conversation.

01

Tell us about the participant

Share what is currently happening, the participant’s goals, existing supports and what the team is hoping may change.

02

We review the referral together

We’ll consider whether Positive Behaviour Support is appropriate, what information may be useful and who should be involved.

03

We agree on the next steps

If we work together, we’ll clarify the assessment process, communication with the wider team and what happens from here.
